The Golden Gate Bridge is one of my most recently-completed artworks, and it’s unique as I rarely incorporate colour into my pieces. In February 2022, I was emailed by a retired lawyer from Florida who had practiced law in the 1970s. He had discovered my work through an NBC news story and reached out to me directly.
He shared that, during his career, part of his legal duties required typing with ribbons in various colours for different subjects. In the NBC interview, I had mentioned that I primarily create my artwork in black and white because black ink ribbons are still commercially available, while ribbons in other colours have largely been discontinued or are nearly impossible to find.
The retired lawyer, having noticed this, kindly offered to send me some very rare, old typewriter ribbons in colours like red, orange, yellow, green, and blue, which he had kept from his working days. To this day, I use these colours sparingly, reserving them for select works. The Golden Gate Bridge is a first edition piece and limited edition of 200. The artwork measures 42cm x 29.7cm (A3).
