This portrait honours Lorraine Hansberry, the ground-breaking American playwright and author best known for A Raisin in the Sun. Drawing upon the experiences of a Black family in Chicago, the play explored race, identity, discrimination and the pursuit of a better life, and made Hansberry the first Black woman to have a play performed on Broadway. Typed into the artwork are references to her writing, activism and lasting influence on American theatre.
